Tambrauw Civilian Killing: YY Named Suspect, 7 on Wanted List

Southwest Papua Regional Police (Polda Papua Barat Daya) have identified a suspect named YY in connection with the killing of a civilian in Bamusbama District, Tambrauw Regency, Southwest Papua. Seven individuals are also listed as wanted (DPO) in this case, as announced by Head of Public Relations of Southwest Papua Police, Kompol Jenny Setya Agustin Hengkelare during a press conference at the regional police headquarters on March 25, 2026. YY became a suspect after being found in possession of ammunition and a handheld radio. He has been in custody since March 23, 2026.

YY is believed to have violated Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951 or Criminal Code Article 189(b) related to unlawful possession of firearm ammunition. Tambrauw Police have identified several suspects involved in the civilian killings on March 8 and March 16, 2026. The wanted individuals include Gidion Yesnath, Yudas Yesyan, Tobias Yekwam, Maxiumus Yesyan, Ateng Yekwam, Yohanis Yeblo, and Silas Yesnath. Witnesses TY, MY, WY, and PY have been released to their families under legal supervision.

In response to these incidents, Tambrauw Police Chief, along with stakeholders from the Indonesian military and the Tambrauw Regency government, have held internal meetings for regional reconciliation. Authorities have urged the residents of Tambrauw to remain calm and continue their daily activities while maintaining vigilance. The recent attack on a TNI post in Sori Village in Maybrat Regency on March 22 is being coordinated through TNI public relations, as claimed by the West Papua National Liberation Army – Free Papua Movement (TPNPB-OPM) group.
